Many of my paintings
are created on-site while others are produced in my studio, from sketches
and
drawings. The pleasure of working outside is in the immediacy of
execution. I can study a location in greater depth - fully
absorbing the details. I often
look back at my sketch-books and see some 'mad, random scribble' but,
from this, I remember where I was, what I was trying to
portray and the emotions evoked at the time. For me, my sketches
are a visual diary of my travels.
