For
the people who
commission me, my portraits have true value. They are unique, and
created
with skill and care... just for them. Commissioning a portrait is an
intimate experience. Before I put pen to paper, I need to glean as much
information as I can about the subject (be it animal or human) if I am
to get a real sense of their character. This can involve photos
and sketches but,
more importantly, listening to the client talk about their
loved one.
My work will
also last a life-time. In time, the image
(seen everyday) gradually becomes the memory of the character
long past away.
In this
particular piece, the easel in the background could be a cross
and the box might be the
cat's coffin. In the end, memories and the portrait, are all that
remain.
